Soccer in USA

I've found that there's a lot of players with potential in high school and college to be good professionals or even stars, but other countries don't recognizes USA as a good soccer country.

Actually, they say that the soccer in USA is really, really bad. So I want to know why if there is so many people with the potential to play in a professional league, why they don't do it?

  1. Hi Marti-
Here's some interesting takes on that question:

  2. I think your question is interesting, Marti and worth exploring. Perhaps what would help is considering what sports ARE popular in the United States and what they show about what Americans value in their athletes.

Also, youth soccer programs are everywhere in America, but we don't often hear of American professional soccer players. Is the way soccer is taught in the United States preventing people from becoming better players? How so?

  3. That's a good question, I think it is. Because when the people start running before they know how to walk they always fall when they run versus someone that know both. I mean that if you train your team to do crazy stuff but not the basic they are going to lose versus someone how know the basic of the game.

  4. Have you read those articles you found in class yesterday? How do they explain why soccer isn't popular in the United States?

Also, does Europe have superior training methods for their athletes than the US in general? Meaning, I understand your comment about how they focus on the basics. I wonder if those coaching strategies(focussing on the basics) are used in training athletes for more popular US sports like baseball or football?

  6. knows what he's talking about. i'm wondering how many people go pro from the US. Is it the most loved sport everywhere else. When you present you should put videos of people playing and show how much people love soccer
